E-Filling Income Tax

1. Navigate the URL of Govt Site: www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
2. New User, Need to register.




3. Existing User, use PAN number as userid and password what is set while doing registration.



 


4. After logging in, on Left Menu under DOWNLOAD there is link e-filling AY YYYY-YY (For Example, e-Filling AY 2012-13).

5. Focus Mouse Pointer on the above mentioned link, there is a link for Individual,HUF. click on it.
    Follow the screenshot.






6. A zip file will be downloaded to system/notebook/laptop/smartphone. Need to unzip the downloaded file.
7. It contains two files Help.txt and a spreadsheet/excel sheet.
8. Follow the instructions in Help.txt for setting the security level for the spreadsheet to make it editable.
9. The spreadsheet will contain the details of Income and Tax.
10. Spreadsheet having four worksheets Income Details, TDS, Taxes Paid and Verification, and 80G.

What needs to be filled in each worksheet?

Income Details Sheet:

 1. Fill the required fields.
 2. In field No.1, have to fill the amount of your Form 16 against "Income Chargeable Under Head Salaries".
 3. Rest all fill as appropriate.

TDS Sheet:
    
  A. No. 23,
         (1) - Already filled.
         (2) - TAN of the employer - needs to be filled
         (3) - Name of the employer - needs to be filled
         (4) - Income Chargeable Under Head Salaries - needs to be filled
         (5) - Total Tax deducted.- needs to be filled
   
        Note: Possible to enter more than one employer details if required.

  B. No. 25, (Most Important)
            * If tax is due then you can pay online and after that fill the payment details in this section.
            * Find the bottom part of this blog how to make payment of tax online.
    
Tax Paid and Verification Sheet: 
            * Need to fill No. 20, 21, 22, and 26 as appropriate.

80G Sheet:
            *  Fill as appropriate.

Note: Click the validate button  on each sheet.
           If entries are correct, then a pop up will flash with message "Sheet ok".
      

9. Click the button "Calculate Tax" and it will show the exact tax how much needs to be paid.
10. If no tax to be paid, then click on "Generate XML" and save the XML by clicking on "SAVE XML" button on newly generated spreadsheet.
11. Under SUBMIT RETURN section on left menu select the financial year which you are going to file your tax.

As the uploaded xml is not digitally signed, so it is required to send send the ITR-V to the mentioned address in the popup window.
After clicking on OK, the SUCCESS screen on Web page which will also show the same address looks like below:





On the next day of your e-filling, you will get the ITR-V in your given email address.




How do you make online tax payment sitting at home/office? 

1. Open a net-banking account with any of the banks and can do the payment
                                         OR 
1. Go to website www.incometaxindia.gov.in , click on ‘Continue >>’.




2. Focus on "Pay Taxes Online" > select "Pay Tax Online". After selecting this there will be a pop screen on which "OK" should be clicked. It will open an another window.



3. Fill in the required challan online. For salaried person Challan 280 is appropriate. Help is available on screen as FAQ, downloads etc. 


4. First Fill the PAN Number, then select the option Other than Company and Self Assessment tax .


    


5. Make tax payment through net-banking account online.
6. A challan counterfoil will be available instantaneously on the screen with CIN (challan identification number). The Challan Identification Number (CIN) on this counterfoil should be quoted in Return of Income. 
7. Print the counterfoil and also save it in the computer/notebook/laptop/smartphone if required. 
8. Check if your payment has reached the Income Tax Department at    https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/oltas/servlet/QueryTaxpayer .
